When they are ready, at around the age of two years, children will move from our Toddler group up to our Tweenie room.
We have 5 early year’s practitioners who can care for up to 20 of our Tweenies each day. They offer activities planned to support the children’s development in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (2014), influenced by observations made throughout the week and by information provided by the parents through Tapestry and informal chats during pick up or drop off times.
During the day, our Tweenies have access to a rich environment within several differing areas of the room. We provide a continuous provision of sand, water, messy play, block play and also a quiet area for reading stories and relaxing and a home corner. All of our resources and activity areas are appropriate for the age group and designed to promote and stimulate your child’s development, learning and independence.
Our Tweenies are always on the go and really benefit from large and small physical play. We offer free flow play from the room to the garden on a daily basis and also have an indoor climbing frame and physical activity area for children to practice and strengthen their physical movements.
Around the age of two children’s language skills develop at a very fast rate. To support children’s communication & language development we provide them with group sessions with their key worker on a daily basis. For children who need extra support with their language we have a dedicated communication and language lead practitioner who can spend targeted one to one support time.
Our Tweenie room can also provide integrated 2 year reviews in conjunction with your health visitor. Many children have their review just after their second birthday and if you live in the Dudley area we can arrange, with the health team, a time for you, your child’s health visitor and your child’s key worker to meet and discuss their development both at home and nursery.
We can also support children aged two years, who receive funding for childcare under the Time for Two’s funding scheme offered by the local authority. If you would like any more information please ask.
However independent and active our Tweenies are, they will sometimes need a rest or just a cuddle, our practitioners are always on hand to provide this and we have a dedicated sleep area for this group of children.
The children in this group have access to water or diluted juice throughout the day and eat lunch in the dining area. They have a snack table offering fruit and other healthy options to the children as and when they are ready.
Many parents feel that at this age their children are ready to begin toilet training.
The staff will happily help parents by continuing their method that they are using at home. It is advisable at this stage to bring in plenty of changes of clothing, also a named potty, if applicable, for their child’s exclusive use.
We are open from 7.30am to 6.00pm from Monday to Friday throughout the year including school holidays.
We are closed on statutory bank holidays and also during the week between Christmas and New Year.
